Ripple, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/04/44647456/bitcoin-xrp-diversion">the blockchain-based payments firm</a> behind XRP (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/xrp/usd">XRP</a>), is raising fresh concerns over the UK's sluggish approach to crypto regulation, arguing that it's leaving British banks unwilling to engage with digital assets.
What Happened: At a policy summit held in London, Cassie Craddock, Ripple's Managing Director for the UK and Europe, said that the country's banking institutions remain hesitant to adopt Ripple's services due to lingering uncertainty around crypto laws.
"It's still difficult to access basic banking services because of this uncertainty," she <a href="https://www.dlnews.com/articles/regulation/why-ripple-says-uk-banks-will-not-engage-with-it/?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=organic_social&amp;utm_campaign=">said</a>, adding that large banks continue to keep their distance.
Craddock recalled being dismissed by major banks during earlier attempts to introduce Ripple's solutions. "Back in 2017, financial institutions would hear us out and then never return our calls," she said. 
Although conditions have since improved in the EU, where banks are increasingly embracing digital asset services under the new Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, the UK has made less progress.
While the new Labour government under Prime Minister Keir Starmer has restarted work on a regulatory framework, Ripple says the pace remains too slow.
"We need clarity sooner rather than later if we want to benefit from the pro-crypto stance we're seeing in the U.S.," Craddock told DL News, referencing <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/03/44363340/crypto-leaders-step-up-pressure-on-sec-as-trumps-policies-reshape-regulatory-landscape">recent policy shifts</a> under President Trump's administration.
Ripple says its expansion in Europe has accelerated thanks to clearer regulation across the bloc. 
According to Craddock, banks on the continent are now facing client demand for digital asset services—leading them to seek out platforms like Ripple. 
In contrast, UK institutions are holding back due to a lack of confidence in the regulatory environment. 
"They don't feel secure enough to get involved," she said.
While large banks hesitate, Ripple is finding more interest among smaller fintechs and startups in the UK looking to leverage its cross-border payment tools.

Why It Matters: The firm is increasingly shifting its hiring strategy to focus on the United States.
CEO Brad Garlinghouse has previously stated that 75% of new roles will be U.S.-based to align with the friendlier policy environment there.
Despite this, Ripple says it continues to invest in its UK and European operations. 
The company is also one of several awaiting regulatory approval from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). 
Since 2020, the FCA has only approved 14% of the 351 crypto firms that have applied for registration, a rate that has drawn criticism from the industry.
In response, the FCA maintains that its low approval rate reflects strict adherence to anti-money laundering standards, rather than resistance to innovation. 
"We're not anti-innovation," FCA Chief Executive Nikhil Rathi said last week. "We want the UK to be an attractive destination."

Costco Wholesale Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COST#NASDAQ">COST</a>) has been in focus with tariffs expected to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44634737/retailers-brace-for-higher-costs-as-us-tariff-rates-soar-says-goldman-sachs">have the worst impact on apparel and home furnishings</a>.
The company is scheduled to report its March sales on Wednesday, April 9.
The company could announce a deceleration in total comps for the month to 2.5%, from 7.7% last year, according to Telsey Advisory Group.
The Costco Wholesale Analyst: <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/5e301e08430dee0001c88c8d/joseph-feldman">Analyst Joseph Feldman</a> reiterated an Outperform rating and price target of $1,000.
The Costco Wholesale Thesis: Gas prices declined by high single digits in March, which is likely to result in a comp headwind of around 80 basis points (bps), Feldman said in a note.

Strength in the U.S. dollar could translate to an additional headwind of around 170 bps, he added.

Costco Wholesale's digital sales growth is expected to have decelerated to 5%, from 28.3% last year, he stated.
Non-Food sales could outperform, with consumers shopping for certain discretionary categories such as gift cards, while Food &amp; Sundries and Fresh Foods sales are expected to "remain solid, given favorable at-home consumption and the value-focused assortment," Feldman further said.
COST Price Action: Shares of Costco Wholesale had declined by 2.73% to $942.91 at publication on Friday.

The airline, through its venture capital division, Alaska Star Ventures, is backing the development of a groundbreaking full-motion, extended reality-powered flight simulator tailored for Boeing 737.
The initiative aims to create a highly &#8220;immersive&#8221; and compact training platform that could transform how pilots are prepared for commercial flight.
Loft Dynamics is currently the only company with VR helicopter simulators approved by both the FAA and EASA.
Their latest collaboration with Alaska will introduce the first hyper-realistic, full-motion 737 simulator built on VR technology.

Alaska Airlines has always been at the forefront of aviation innovation, said Loft Dynamics CEO Fabi Riesen.
&#8220;Now, by investing in the development of full-motion VR simulators,&nbsp;Alaska&nbsp;is once again moving the industry forward,&#8221;&nbsp;Riesen added.
The advanced system will feature a 360-degree panoramic 3D view, real-time body tracking, and a motion platform that recreates the physical feedback of flying.
According to Capt. Jeff Severns, managing director of flight operations training at Alaska, the company sees this simulator as a potential game-changer.
It allows for deep training experiences in much smaller spaces and enables more frequent practice sessions. &#8220;With the potential of Loft&#8217;s hyper-realistic VR simulator, we could be transforming commercial pilot training as we know it today,&#8221; he said.
It&#8217;s also expected to integrate with Apple&#8217;s Vision Pro headset through Loft&#8217;s LoftSPATIAL app, increasing accessibility and convenience for trainees.
Pasha Saleh, Alaska Airlines&#8217; director of corporate development, described the investment as a &#8220;paradigm shift.&#8221;
He emphasized that the technology could improve the quality of pilot training while reducing travel and logistical challenges.
The simulator will eventually be submitted for FAA certification, and in the meantime, Alaska and Loft will work on interim uses to enhance existing training programs.
Price Action: ALK shares are trading lower by 3.24% to $44.45 at last check Friday.
