"For CEOs, target long-term incentives consistently increase more each year than salaries or bonuses," Melissa Burek, a partner with Compensation Advisory Partners, told the AP. "Given the significant role that long-term incentives play in executive pay, this trend makes sense."
Morningstar Sustainalytic Senior Director of Stewardship Jackie Cook also told the AP that there are benefits to tying CEO pay to performance, but noted that increased use of share-based pay has led to a "phenomenal rise" in CEO compensation "tracking recent years' market performance," which has "widened the pay gap within workplaces."
At half the companies included in the survey, it would take the average worker 192 years to make what their CEOs make in one year, according to the AP. This pay ratio tends to be highest in industries where wages are low, like fast food or hospitality.
"With CEO pay continuing to climb, we still have an enormous problem with excessive pay gaps," Anderson told the AP. "These huge disparities are not only unfair to lower-level workers who are making significant contributions to company value – they also undercut enterprise effectiveness by lowering employee morale and boosting turnover rates."

Needham: Marvell indicated that it estimates its Data Center TAM (total addressable market) at $94 billion in 2028. That&#8217;s up from its previous projection of $75 billion. All four subsegments of the division are expected to contribute to this growth, Bolton said in a note.
Marvell introduced ‘Custom XPU attach', which represents "an increasingly strategic portion of its Data Center TAM," growing at a CAGR (compounded annual growth rate) of 90% from 2023-2028, "significantly outpacing the 47% CAGR of the Custom XPU segment. "We see Custom XPU attach as a particularly rich opportunity for MRVL given its networking and processing background," he further wrote.
JPMorgan: Marvell presented a "compelling and sustainable growth strategy for its AI datacenter networking/ASIC business," Sur said. With new design wins confirmed, the company now has design wins for 18 multi-generational sockets, "which should help drive its ASIC AI silicon market share to 20% by 2028," he added.
"The team is driving strong product innovation and investing in sustaining its leading-edge technology, given its strong R&amp;D scale ($2B+ per year)," the analyst wrote. If Marvell executes well on its datacenter growth strategy and captures 20% of the datacenter TAM opportunity by 2028, there could be "significant upside' to its stock, he further stated.

Firms seeking cheaper capital, driven by a growing interest rate disparity across the Atlantic, fueled the increase.
"There is evidence of a link between shifts in invoicing currency patterns in global trade and geopolitical alignments," ECB President Christine Lagarde said in the opening remarks of the report published on June 11. "New challenges to the euro's international role have also emerged, including initiatives promoting the global use of cryptocurrencies."

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">ECB Policy Focuses on Cutting Rates, Growth</h2>
In response to Eurozone inflation at <a target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/products-euro-indicators/w/2-18062025-ap">just 1.9%</a>, the ECB has halved its benchmark rate over the past year, with its policy rate now standing at 2%. Services inflation has cooled from 4% to 3.2%, while goods inflation remains subdued at 0.6%.
"In our mission we have price stability but we also know that there cannot be price stability without financial stability," Lagarde said in a <a target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgdgTa7P4Yk">recent interview</a> for CGTN. "So, we are very focused on monitoring the potential risks, the uncertainty that abounds around the European economy, to anticipate any further consequences and be able to respond. But at this point in time, we have stabilized prices at the level that we were expecting."
Still, with economic growth expectations downgraded and inflation projected to dip further in 2026, the ECB faces the risk of deflationary pressures re-emerging, an echo of the post-2010 euro crisis period.

The Swiss franc is once again proving to be Europe's haven. As geopolitical risks surge, particularly with the latest conflict between Israel and Iran, the franc's attractiveness has continued to grow. Yet, strengthening the currency comes with challenges.
In May, Switzerland returned to deflation for the first time since 2021, with consumer prices falling 0.1% year-over-year. Declines were widespread, from transport to household goods, pushing inflation back to the lower edge, or below, of the Swiss National Bank's (SNB) 0–2% stability target.

With the franc appreciating, the SNB is under pressure to act. Its next monetary policy meeting on June 19 is expected to deliver another 25 basis point cut, taking the policy rate to zero.
By September, the rate could fall to -0.25% or even -0.75%, reintroducing the controversial era of <a target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.euronews.com/business/2025/06/11/swiss-deflation-fuels-talks-of-negative-interest-rates-is-snb-ready">negative interest rates</a>. The SNB employed negative rates from 2015 to 2022.
Meanwhile, short-dated Swiss government bonds have entered the territory of negative yields. The two-year yield touched as low as -0.225% on June 3, and nearly a quarter of the outstanding Swiss government debt yields less than zero.

The pound's slide followed a string of weak labor market data, including the <a target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-06-10/uk-employment-drops-most-since-2020-and-wage-growth-cools">sharpest drop in employment</a> in five years and slower-than-expected wage growth, according to data for May.
"The dovish repricing of BOE rate-cut expectations takes some of the shine off the pound," Lee Hardman, a senior currency analyst at MUFG, <a target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-06-10/weak-uk-jobs-data-sends-down-pound-and-boosts-boe-rate-cut-bets">told</a> Bloomberg. He noted that the strengthening trend is "unlikely on its own to reverse the recent upward trend unless the BOE signals it is more willing to speed up rate cuts."

The Bank of England (BOE), which has already cut rates four times to 4.25%, is facing mounting pressure to ease them further. Markets are fully pricing another rate cut in September and see a 90% chance of an additional move by December.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">BOE's Rate Journey Remains Unclear</h2>
Yet the path ahead is far from clear. Inflation remains sticky, with April's annual CPI at 3.4%, well above the BOE's 2% target, and expected to rise to 3.7% before cooling in 2026. Thus, opinions diverge on the most optimal policy path.
Some, like BOE committee member Alan Taylor, want <a target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.ft.com/content/e842038f-e4df-4e99-a5be-8b6f12312a12">deeper and faster cuts</a> amid deteriorating growth. Others, including economists at JP Morgan and Schroders, argue that inflationary risks from elevated wage and services costs warrant a more cautious approach.
Options markets reflect this uncertainty, with no apparent bias in the direction.
Nevertheless, the pound remains one of the highest-yielding G10 currencies and has benefited from a rebound in risk appetite. Unless the BOE signals a more aggressive pivot toward easing, or the inflation picture improves substantially, the pound may struggle to maintain its upward momentum.

Just hours before the Federal Reserve's June policy meeting, President Donald Trump launched a fresh attack on Fed Chair Jerome Powell while sidestepping direct confirmation of a potential U.S. <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/middle-east">military strike on Iran.</a>
What Happened: Speaking outside the White House on Wednesday, Trump renewed his call for sharply lower interest rates. He argues that the U.S. should be "two to two and a half points lower" given what he described as a low-inflation environment.
"We have almost no inflation. We have only success. I&#8217;d like to see interest rates get down now," Trump said, blaming Powell for the high cost of refinancing U.S. debt. 
He claimed that just a one-point reduction would deliver meaningful relief on refinancing federal debt, while a two-point cut would save even more over long-term maturities.
"We'd be saving $700 billion, $800 billion—trillions over time,&#8221; he says.
Trump describes Powell as someone who "refuses to lower the Fed" and "is not a smart person." Trump went further, accusing Powell of personal bias, saying, "I think he hates me.&#8221;

Trump also pointed to Europe's more aggressive monetary easing in 2025.
"Europe had 10 cuts. We had none," he said, adding that some countries with lower rates "can't carry our suitcase."
The remarks come as markets expect the Fed to hold its benchmark rate steady in the 4.25%-4.50% range for the fourth straight meeting, while the updated dot plot may show fewer cuts than traders had previously hoped.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Iran Rejects Trump&#8217;s Demands</h3>
When Trump reiterated his demand for an "unconditional surrender," calling Iran "schoolyard bullies" with long-standing hostile intentions, it did nothing to sway Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
According <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/americas/israel-iran-air-war-enters-sixth-day-trump-calls-irans-unconditional-surrender-2025-06-17/">to</a> Reuters, Khamenei rejected Trump&#8217;s demand for &#8220;unconditional surrender&#8221; on Wednesday.
The rejection comes after Trump was pressed on U.S. military intentions following a Situation Room meeting on Tuesday. Trump refused to confirm any immediate plans to strike Iran's nuclear infrastructure.
&#8220;Nobody knows what I&#8217;m going to do,&#8221; Trump said.
Regarding hopes of a new round of negotiations, Trump stated that &#8220;nothing is too late.&#8221;
He added, cryptically, "Next week is going to be very big. Maybe less than a week."
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Markets Signal De-Escalation For Now</h3>
U.S. markets responded positively to the lack of definitive military escalation. 
The Nasdaq 100 — as tracked by the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>) — rallied by 0.7% to 21,850 at last check Wednesday. The S&amp;P 500 rose 0.6% to 6,025.
The gains came as investors priced in a reduced likelihood of imminent U.S. military action in Iran, and speculated about possible diplomatic openings.
In commodities, gold pulled back, while West Texas Intermediate crude fell to $72 per barrel, down more than 2% from the previous day's high. The U.S. dollar also dipped slightly as global risk sentiment improved.
