In 1989, a couple from Long Island took a chance on an unclaimed storage unit for just $100, as reported by a CNBC article. They didn't expect to find a piece of movie history tucked away under some old blankets – a 1976 Lotus Esprit, used in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me.
The couple, who had no clue what they stumbled upon, initially planned to fix the car's roof and do some minor work. But while hauling it home, truckers on the road started radioing them, letting them know they had something much more valuable – a James Bond car. After hearing this, the husband rented the movie and realized they were sitting on a treasure.&nbsp;

Ironically, the couple had reportedly never even seen a Bond film.&nbsp;
Years later, after some cosmetic touch-ups, they auctioned the car in 2013. That's when Elon Musk entered the picture, paying nearly $1 million for the Lotus – $997,000. Musk, who grew up watching the Bond movie, said, "It was amazing as a little kid to watch James Bond drive the Lotus Esprit off a pier and have it transform into a submarine."
In a statement to auto blog Jalopnik, Musk said, "I was disappointed to learn that it can&#8217;t transform. What I&#8217;m going to do is upgrade it with a Tesla electric powertrain and try to make it transform for real."
Interestingly, the car, nicknamed "Wet Nellie," was originally converted into a functional submarine for the movie, costing over $100,000. While it couldn't drive on land, it was fully capable of underwater action with propellers and ballast tanks. Instead of wheels, it had "articulated fins.&#8221;&nbsp;

Musk's fascination with the Lotus Esprit didn't end at its purchase. He stated that the car significantly shaped the futuristic design of Tesla's Cybertruck, unveiled in 2019.&nbsp;
Musk <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1197638937109336066">posted on X</a> that the Cybertruck's sharp, angular design was "influenced partly" by the iconic Bond car, writing: "Cybertruck design influenced partly by The Spy Who Loved Me." He attached a YouTube clip of the movie.&nbsp;

Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Nowak reiterated Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) with an Overweight rating and a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/AMZN/analyst-ratings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">$210&nbsp;price target</a>.
Amazon traded at 22 times Nowak&#8217;s 2026 free cash flow, representing 29% growth (fiscal 2024-2026 free cash flow per share CAGR). He said this is a ~30% discount to Amazon&#8217;s mega-cap tech peer median growth-adjusted multiple on a growth-adjusted basis.

The price target implies paying 20 times fiscal 2027 free cash flow for 24% growth (fiscal 2025-2027 free cash flow per share CAGR) and 0.8 times on a growth-adjusted basis, a ~20% discount to Amazon&#8217;s mega-cap tech peer median growth-adjusted multiple of 1.1 times.
Nowak noted the tactical risk to fourth-quarter EBIT but is buying weakness into fiscal 2025 as the profit challenges are temporary and not structural.
Nowak said Amazon&#8217;s growing focus on lower-priced, lower-margin essentials drives merchandise margin pressure, which is holding back the near-term slope of its North American retail profit ramp. Expected discounting in a competitive holiday season creates further near-term uncertainty, he said.
According to the analyst, Amazon makes low-priced essentials profitable and the cost to serve still leads to $8-$9 free cash flow per share. Corporate efficiencies could lead to $2 billion-$4 billion of further savings, and Project Kuiper and headcount models speak to minimal headwinds here.
Nowak said Amazon management&#8217;s recent letter outlining an increased focus on efficiency should lead to a further EBIT cushion and upside in fiscal 2025.
Project Kuiper is likely to be manageable from a P&amp;L-impact perspective, Nowak said. He noted Amazon&#8217;s growing net cash balance creates a higher probability of capital returns in fiscal 2025.
Nowak projected fiscal 2024 revenue of $633.96 billion and EPS of $4.80. He expects fiscal 2025 revenue of $ 697.94 billion and EPS of $5.93.

Producer prices in the Eurozone rose 0.6% month-over-month in August compared to a revised 0.7% increase in July. The HCOB Eurozone composite PMI was revised higher to 49.6 in September versus a preliminary reading of 48.9.
The S&amp;P Global UK services PMI declined to 52.4 in September from 53.7 in the previous month, while German services PMI fell to 50.6 in September from 51.2 a month ago.

Asian markets closed mixed on Thursday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 gaining 1.97%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index falling 1.47% and India's BSE Sensex dipping 2.10%.
The au Jibun Bank Japan services PMI was revised lower to 53.1 for September, versus a preliminary reading of 53.9.

Crude Oil Jumps Over 4%; US Services PMI Revised Lower

YPF Sociedad An&oacute;nima (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ypf#NYSE">YPF</a>), Argentina&#39;s state-owned energy company, has announced that it will be lowering fuel prices across the country, starting from Oct. 1, 2024. The company announced a 4% reduction in gasoline prices and a 5% reduction in diesel prices. However, the pump prices will reflect a 1% reduction in gasoline prices and 2% in diesel prices. The devaluation of the Argentine peso and an increase in taxes led to a 3% rise in fuel prices, which partially reduced the full benefit of the price cut.
<h2>YPF&#39;s Fair Pricing Strategy</h2>
YPF considers several factors before setting the prices, including local and international market dynamics as well as fuel production costs as it intends to stick to a fair pricing strategy for fuels. Per the company&#39;s statement, the reduction in fuel prices is a reflection of the declining trend in the global Brent crude oil prices. The state-owned energy firm has reportedly lowered fuel prices for the first time since 2019.
Argentina has witnessed a cumulative 51% rise in gasoline prices so far. According to source, the year-over-year increase in gas prices stood at a staggering 340% in September. YPF has successfully struck a balance between local fuel prices and international prices over the past eight months, which should enable it to make future price adjustments based on international Brent crude prices alongside other local factors associated with costs.

On Tuesday, the company disclosed a joint venture with GIC and Canada <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/10/n41115011/equinix-agrees-to-form-greater-than-15b-jv-to-expand-hyperscale-data-centers-in-the-u-s-and-suppor" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments)</a>.
All parties have made equity commitments, and the JV plans to raise more than $15 billion in investable capital through equity and debt.
As per the terms, CPP Investments and GIC will each hold a 37.5% equity stake in the joint venture, while Equinix will own 25%.
Equinix&#8217;s current hyperscale joint venture portfolio in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas has over $8 billion in committed investment. When fully built out, it aims to deliver more than 725 MW of power capacity across 35+ facilities.
The JV will accelerate the expansion of Equinix&#8217;s xScale data center portfolio, which supports hyperscale companies in enhancing their core deployments at Equinix&#8217;s IBX data centers.
Once fully realized, this new JV will nearly triple the investment capital of the xScale program, driven by the growing demand for AI and cloud services.

Equinix expects the JV to acquire land and develop new xScale facilities on several 100+ MW campuses in the U.S., adding over 1.5 gigawatts of capacity for hyperscale customers.
The joint venture&#8217;s closing, pending regulatory approvals, is expected by the fourth quarter of 2024.
