Earnings would be taxed as long-term capital gains if spent on college, training, or a first home and would be penalized if used for other purposes, according to the Cruz proposal. A Milken Institute paper by former SEC commissioner Michael Piwowar and economist Robert Shapiro estimates the $1,000 seed could average $8,000 in 20 years, $69,000 in 40 and $574,000 in 60, assuming historical stock returns.

With an ever-changing macro policy backdrop, the spending environment was the focus of this discussion.&nbsp; AI product cycles were another key topic discussed, with companies citing healthy pilot activity for agentic applications.&nbsp;
Based on discussions, participating software companies endorsed a generally stable environment, although companies remained cognizant of underlying risks.

According to the analyst, Microsoft is rapidly innovating across the enterprise stack.
ServiceNow&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NOW#NYSE">NOW</a>) (Buy, price forecast $1,085) Chief Customer Officer Chris Bedi highlighted solid execution through a tough macro environment in the tariff-impacted manufacturing vertical and DOGE-impacted Federal vertical. ServiceNow noted sustained momentum across the broad IT, customer, and employee application suites. It is expanding rapidly to multiple departments in the enterprise.
In front office applications, Salesforce&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CRM#NYSE">CRM</a>) (Buy, price forecast $350) COO and CFO, Robin Washington, reiterated pockets of weakness in tariff-impacted verticals like manufacturing and retail, though noting strength elsewhere, Sills said. According to the analyst, Salesforce is driving growth in both core and Agentforce.
The analyst noted that Datadog&#8217;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DDOG#NASDAQ">DDOG</a>) (Buy, price forecast $138) CFO, David Obstler, highlighted the company&#8217;s expanding product offering and its long-term growth potential for monitoring cloud workloads, which are increasing in volume and complexity due to AI. The analyst noted that Datadog&#8217;s AI-native cohort is growing quickly, though volatility is inherent in the consumption model.
Sills said Asana (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ASAN#NYSE">ASAN</a>) (Buy, price forecast $21) noted slight incremental macro headwinds in April for its enterprise segment. According to the analyst, AI Studio could represent a powerful second-half 2026 catalyst for Asana.
The analyst noted that software firms cited solid leading indicators for agentic application adoption, though these cycles remain nascent.
He said data management vendors such as Microsoft noted added database activity as enterprises prepare for running agentic AI applications.
DevSecOps software vendor JFrog (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FROG#NASDAQ">FROG</a>) (Buy, price forecast $48) discussed how AI-focused code is beginning to show up more this year, Sills said. The analyst pronounced JFrog&#8217;s setup good heading into the second half of 2025.
Application vendors Salesforce and ServiceNow cited healthy pilot activity for agentic applications, Agentforce, and Now Assist, the analyst noted. However, he said revenue targets are limited at this cycle stage.&nbsp;
Microsoft cited hundreds of thousands of customers running Microsoft 365 Copilot, expanding deployments, Sills noted.&nbsp;
He said that OneStream (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/OS#NASDAQ">OS</a>) (Buy, price forecast $33) highlighted its attractive AI value proposition and adoption trends in the back office with its SensibleAI Forecast offering. OneStream is an AI-powered back-office disruptor.
The analyst said Asana and Freshworks (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FRSH#NASDAQ">FRSH</a>) (Neutral, price forecast $18) noted healthy demand for AI Studio and Freddy AI. Freshworks&#8217; AI offerings are driving up the list across all growth levers.

SEC May Loosen Rules On Executive Perks — Private Jet Rides, Bodyguards Could Stay Hidden: Report

BofA Securities analyst Brad Sills disclosed its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/software" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">software spending survey</a> on Tuesday.
Since his last survey in December, Sills&#8217; IT professionals&#8217; survey suggested that software spending growth intentions have come down a bit for the second half of 2025 and 2026. Software spending is expected to grow +9.9% for 2025, down 100 basis points from his December survey, and +10.8% for 2026, down 40 basis points. He said this aligns with management and channel commentary that changing macro policies are muddling the demand environment.
However, Sills&#8217; survey still suggests an improving backdrop in 2026, which is backed by channel feedback that pipelines for new software projects remain healthy.
The analyst noted that Data Analytics regained the top spot as a spending priority, trading places with Cloud Communications and Videoconferencing, which slipped to second place. Security held the third position, he said. Sills said other categories with notably higher spending expectations include observability and financials/ERP.
Sills noted that the lower-scoring categories were front-office applications such as CRM Sales, Marketing, and Support. He suggested that this could be due to firms evaluating AI priorities for front-office application projects.
For Analytics, Security, and Public Cloud, Sills noted the positive data supports his thesis for Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>), Snowflake Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SNOW#NYSE">SNOW</a>), and Datadog Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DDOG#NASDAQ">DDOG</a>), which are well positioned in these categories.
The analyst said Infrastructure and Back Office were the top software categories for AI investment (across Infrastructure, Back Office, Front Office, and Desktop Applications).
Back Office saw the largest increase since his year-end fiscal 2024 survey, he said. After LLMs, Workday Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WDAY#NASDAQ">WDAY</a>) was the most selected, Sills noted.
The analyst noted that after LLMs, Salesforce Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CRM#NYSE">CRM</a>) registered the highest number of front-office vendors in which respondents plan to invest in AI offerings.
Front office apps scored lower for the second consecutive survey, Sills noted.
The lower result reflects that firms remain in the discovery phase, as pricing models for agentic offerings such as Salesforce&#8217;s Agentforce and HubSpot Inc&#8216;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HUBS#NYSE">HUBS</a>) Breeze AI agents are evolving, per the analyst.
Sills noted that Amazon.Com Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) AWS, Microsoft, and Alphabet Inc&#8216;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOG#NASDAQ">GOOG</a>) (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOGL#NASDAQ">GOOGL</a>) Google were the most frequently selected vendors for AI in infrastructure.
The analyst said Adobe Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ADBE#NASDAQ">ADBE</a>) remains the market leader in AI investments in desktop applications.
Hiring expectations are down for 2025, again, Sills noted, and recession expectations are fairly high. DOGE is impacting spending plans more so than tariffs, leading to a lower weighted average spending as per the survey.
