Tesla stock and Musk's wealth have rebounded from that feud-related sell-off.
Tesla stock remains down 15.9% year-to-date.
Musk's wealth has taken a hit in 2025 with a $63.5 billion drop in his net worth over the year. This comes with Tesla stock falling, while other ventures of his such as Neuralink, xAI and SpaceX are seeing higher valuations.
Musk became the first person to have a net worth of more than $400 billion in late 2024 and he could be headed back to that figure if Tesla stock can rally on recent robotaxi news and turn positive on the year.

Reuters Reports, U.S. Department Of Commerce Announces New Auto Tariff Offset Process; Says Procedures Outlined For Tariff Offset Apply Exclusively To U.S.-Assembled Autos

Even as May&#8217;s inflation print was better-than-expected, it snapped a four-month falling streak and rose slightly, hinting that firms absorbed some tariff-induced price hikes.
What Happened: &#8220;Surprisingly, new and used vehicle prices declined in May, despite many expecting an increase in prices from tariffs,&#8221; said the chief economist at LPL Financial, Jeffrey Roach.
According to him, prices for apparel and autos, &#8220;both highly sensitive to trade conditions, declined in May.&#8221; Apparel prices also declined in April, indicating that these companies likely &#8220;absorbed tariff costs.&#8221;
&#8220;But don't expect that to continue,&#8221; he added.
Comerica Wealth Management&#8217;s CIO, Eric Teal, reiterated Roach&#8217;s point and explained that tariffs have not yet shown up in consumer prices. &#8220;But a lot depends on the absorption rate of U.S. companies and foreign suppliers.&#8221;
Teal believed that the majority of the tariffs would eventually get passed to the consumer, &#8220;but companies are cautious at this juncture about passing along the price increase.&#8221;
Similarly, the chief economist at Comerica Bank, Bill Adams, said, &#8220;CPI cool in May, but price increases are still likely to accelerate in the second half of the year.&#8221;

Why It Matters: Contrary to the aforementioned views, the CIO at Northlight Asset Management, Chris Zaccarelli, believed that lower-than-expected numbers across the board and a trade deal with China that was agreed to in London would help &#8220;the narrative around tariff-induced inflation should subside.&#8221;
However, &#8220;we are still cautious, but many of the risks that were present in early April appear to be receding at this time,&#8221; Zaccarelli added.
On the other hand, Jamie Cox also believed that the disinflation trend should be intact in the coming months. &#8220;Shelter and energy are going to keep the disinflation trend intact &#8211; prices are moving down in two of the largest categories, so investors should expect further declines in inflation in the coming months,&#8221; he said.
Price Action: The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), which track the S&amp;P 500 index and Nasdaq 100 index, respectively, fell on Wednesday. The SPY was down 0.29% at $601.36, while the QQQ declined 0.34% to $532.41, according to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a> data.

Automotive And Apparel Companies 'Absorbed Tariff Costs' Amid Better Than Expected May CPI Print: 'But Don't Expect That To Continue,' Says Expert

As Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) gears up for its much-hyped Robotaxi service launch, investors are revisiting the disciplined valuation strategy of Gary Black, who sidestepped a 30% downturn by exiting TSLA in 2021.
What Happened: With Tesla's stock trading at a staggering price, which is 166.67 times higher than its 2026 earnings, questions arise: can Black's approach outmaneuver the speculative frenzy surrounding the Robotaxi rollout?
The EV maker&#8217;s forward price-earnings ratio is 6.47 times more expensive than its industry&#8217;s average of 25.75.
The managing partner at Future Fund LLC, Black, underscored his strategy of selling when TSLA exceeds his valuation target, which demonstrated its efficacy in 2021. By offloading shares at a peak, he avoided a significant drawdown, a move that paid off as he rebought at a lower price.

Apart from this, the investor optimism around the Robotaxi service launch in Austin, Texas, was also delayed as Musk changed it to June 22, &#8220;tentatively.&#8221;

Targeting this delay, Gordon Johnson of GLJ Research said that it will be valuable for Tesla shareholders for Musk to delay &#8220;the actual FSD launch indefinitely so as Wall Street can continue to put a ridiculous valuation on a biz that does not exist.&#8221;

Why It Matters: TSLA shares were 1.69% higher in premarket on Wednesday and rose 5.67% to $326.09 per share on Monday. The stock was down 14.02% year-to-date, but it has returned 91.08% over the year.
As Black bats for selling the stock at its target price, about 26 analysts covering TSLA, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/TSLA/analyst-ratings">tracked by Benzinga</a>, have a consensus target price of $306 apiece, with a &#8216;hold&#8217; rating. 
The targets range from $19.05 to $500, and the recent ratings by Morgan Stanley, Baird and Goldman Sachs imply a 1.51% upside for the stock.

Gary Black's 2021 TSLA Stock Exit Dodged A 30% Drop: Can Valuation Discipline Outsmart Tesla's 2025 Robotaxi Hype

Elon Musk&#8217;s&nbsp;Tesla Inc.&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) is facing a new challenge to its revenue model, which could have significant implications for the electric vehicle (EV) maker.
What Happened:&nbsp;The Senate Committee on Commerce,&nbsp;Science, and Transportation has suggested the removal of penalties for auto companies that do not meet specific fuel economy standards. This could affect Tesla&#8217;s ability to sell regulatory credits, a major contributor to its profit, <a href="https://fortune.com/2025/06/10/tesla-revenue-regulatory-credits-senate-republican-budget-bill/">reported</a>&nbsp;Fortune. The proposal is part of President&nbsp;Donald Trump&#8217;s&nbsp;&#8216;Big, Beautiful Bill.&#8217;
Companies that manufacture energy-efficient vehicles are awarded these credits. Tesla, being an electric vehicle producer, has accumulated these credits and sold them to other manufacturers like Ford (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) and Stellantis (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/STLA#NYSE">STLA</a>), who find it challenging to meet the standards. &nbsp;However, the proposed changes would render these credits unnecessary, effectively nullifying the CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards.
Tesla&#8217;s profitability heavily relies on regulatory credits. In fiscal 2024, it earned $2.76 billion from these credits and $595 million in Q1 2025. Without them, Tesla&#8217;s $420 million net income in Q1 2025 would not have been possible.
The proposal is part of a broader initiative&nbsp;by the Trump administration to&nbsp;reduce auto sustainability standards. If the bill is passed, it could lead to a $2 billion reduction in Tesla&#8217;s revenue, as per JPMorgan analysts.
Dan Becker, director of the Safe Climate Transport Campaign at the Center for Biological Diversity, told&nbsp;the publication, "By taking away these credits, they're taking away a key element of Tesla's profitability."

Why It Matters: This proposed Senate bill follows President Donald Trump&#8216;s &#8216;Big Beautiful Bill,&#8217; which was recently passed by the Republicans in Congress and could pose significant challenges for Tesla and other electric vehicle manufacturers.&nbsp;The bill <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45586258/is-trumps-big-beautiful-bill-a-major-roadblock-for-elon-musks-tesla-and-other-evs">abolishes </a>the $7,500 EV Tax Credit by the end of 2025 for automakers who have sold over 200,000 electric vehicles in the U.S. This could lead to a surge in demand for Tesla vehicles towards the end of 2025, but a significant drop is expected in 2026.
Furthermore, Tesla CEO Elon Musk&#8216;s severe criticism of the Trump administration&#8217;s tax bill has been met with skepticism and caused Tesla stock to tank nearly 14% on a single day. With the feud between the two cooling off, the shares have pared losses. Ross Gerber, CEO and Co-Founder of Gerber Kawasaki, mocked Musk&#8217;s criticism, stating, &#8220;Amazingly Elon now attacking all the people he helped put in power. This should work out well for Tesla I&#8217;m sure.&#8221;

This can create headaches in other areas, such as tax bills, trading fees, and overtrading, which can all be very costly. If you believe in a company&#8217;s long-term prospects but think in the short term that the stock will keep going sideways, there&#8217;s a better strategy than selling.
There&#8217;s a trading strategy that can let you collect income while you wait for the stock to grow to its full potential.
The strategy in question &#8211; covered calls &#8211; is used to earn income from a range-bound asset by selling a call option on a stock you already own. In this trade, you would sell a call option with a strike price slightly above the stock's current market price and collect the upfront premium. Your obligation to the option buyer is "covered" by the 100 shares you already own. If the strike price is reached and the call is exercised, you deliver 100 shares to the buyer and retain the premium.
However, if the call expires without hitting the strike, you keep the stock and pocket the premium as a profit. The upside is limited, but your downside risk is protected by collecting the premium and owning the stock.
A covered call is a neutral strategy, so your max profit is limited to the option premium. The stock has been range-bound since mid-2022, trading between $9 and $15 for the better part of three years.

In other words, they don&#8217;t move much. However, CL shares make a different type of candidate as the stock's range has been narrowing in a wedge pattern, which could signal a consolidation of capital preparing to alter the current trend.

Like Ford, the company has failed to recapture its all-time highs from 2021 and lagged the S&amp;P 500 as stocks recovered in 2023 and 2024. However, the company is seeing a revival of its theme park businesses and profit margins have expanded for four consecutive quarters.

Donald Trump&#8216;s tariffs on steel and aluminum are likely to have a deep impact on the input costs of the U.S. automaker Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>), explains Alex Tsepaev, the chief strategy officer at B2PRIME Group.

The cost of goods sold, or COGS, refers to the input costs paid by the firm to manufacture its final products.
Thus, according to Tsepaev, &#8220;Trump's call to double steel tariffs hits straight on Ford's core. Steel makes up more than half of the weight of a vehicle, and Ford can't do anything with this reality. In 2018, similar tariffs were estimated to cost Ford over $1 billion annually. When your business runs on metal and tariffs make the metal more expensive, Wall Street notices it.&#8221;
Earlier in May, Ford <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/05/45208083/ford-stock-hits-the-brakes-after-q1-earnings-suspends-guidance-due-to-tariff-related-uncertainty">suspended its financial guidance</a> during the first quarter results, which included full-year adjusted EBIT and adjusted free cash flow, due to tariff-related uncertainty. He forecasts that increased input volatility for Ford could lead to downward revisions.
&#8220;In today's environment, policy uncertainty is the new supply chain risk. For investors, Ford looks exposed, rigid, and margin-constrained in all the wrong places,&#8221; Tsepaev added.
