On Wednesday, Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/tm#NYSE">TM</a>) issued its fiscal second quarter results, posting a weaker-than-expected profit due to production halts and macroeconomic events.&nbsp;&nbsp;Its smaller domestic rival, Honda Motor Co. Ltd. (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/hmc#NYSE">HMC</a>) reported a surprising decrease in operating profit that was dragged down by a significant sales drop in China.
Honda&rsquo;s disappointing Q2 results reflect significant hit from unfavorable market conditions in China.

For the quarter that ended on September 30th, Toyota reported its operating income tumbled&nbsp;20% to 1.16 trillion yen which amounts to $7.81 billion, coming short of Bloomberg&rsquo;s estimate of 1.25 trillion yen. This was Toyota&rsquo;s first profit decline in two years and it is owed to weaker sales in its main market, North America.&nbsp;
The world&rsquo;s largest automaker by sales volume reported revenue of&nbsp;11.44 trillion&nbsp;&nbsp;yen, topping LSEG&rsquo;s consensus estimate of&nbsp;11.41 trillion yen while net profit attributable to company more than halved compared to last year&rsquo;s comparable quarter to 573.7 billion yen. Sales volume slipped to 2.3 million from 2023&rsquo;s comparable quarter when it amounted to 2.42 million units.&nbsp;
One should note that sales were up against 2023&rsquo;s record as Toyota benefited from pivoting towards hybrids over all-electric vehicles. Hybrid sales fell 35% YoY over the past six months, but Toyota still sold an impressive figure of 1.8 million units.
<h3>Toyota&#39;s Trimmed Guidance</h3>
Toyota lowered its prior sales forecast of 10.95 million units to 10.85 million. However, it reaffirmed its annual sales revenue guidance of 46.00 trillion yen and a net income of 3.57 trillion yen.&nbsp;

(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HMC#NYSE">HMC</a>) shares are trading lower on Wednesday following a decline in the first-half profit and reduced <a href="https://global.honda/en/investors/library/documents/main/00/teaserItems3/00/linkList/00/link/FYE202503_2Q_financial_presentation_e_1.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">annual </a>profit forecast.
The company reported the first half of FY24 revenue growth of 12.4% year over year 10.798 trillion yen ($69.9 billion), while profits declined 19.7% to 494.6 billion Yen ($3.20 billion).

In the motorcycle business, global sales remained robust, reaching a cumulative total of 10 million units by the end of the second quarter.
Operating profit rose 6.6% to 742.6 billion yen, with a margin of 6.9% (vs<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">. 7.2% in the first half of FY23)</a>.
Additionally, a resolution was made at the company&#8217;s board meeting to repurchase company shares, up to 100 billion yen.
Outlook: For FY25, the company reduced profit for the year attributable to owners of the parent by 50 billion yen to 950 billion yen due to lower equity method profit from reduced sales in China and decreased profit in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">Honda&#8217;s affiliates in Japan</a>.
On the other hand, the company raised the sales revenue forecast by 700 billion yen to 21.000 trillion yen.
Meanwhile, Honda reiterated its FY25 operating profit forecast at 1.420 trillion yen.

The company said in a filing with NHTSA that the reason for the recall was a defect in the manufacturing of the steering gearbox worm wheel.
It can swell during operation, which diminishes the grease film thickness between the worm wheel and the worm gear.
Furthermore, the worm gear&#8217;s spring preload was set too high, leading to an increased sliding force between the components.
Consequently, the combination of reduced grease film thickness and heightened sliding force results in increased friction between the worm wheel and the worm gear. This increased friction can increase steering effort and difficulty, raising the risk of a crash or injury.
The recall includes several major models like the Honda Civic 4D, Honda CR-V, and Honda CR-V Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle, which span between 2022-2025.
