T-Mobile&#8217;s share of phone net adds was 35% in the first quarter of 2025. That&#8217;s the same as the first quarter of 2024 and in line with the four-year average of 36% for the first quarter. This shows consistency in loading within a very dynamic market.
The analyst expects loading at T-Mobile US to accelerate as the year progresses, similar to normal seasonality. The company&#8217;s financial guidance actually provides a great hint that management expects strong loading in the second half.
In the first quarter, core adjusted EBITDA growth was 8%, while guidance implies that growth will decelerate. Some of that deceleration in growth is due to increased investments in AI and customer service, but also, very importantly, higher loading costs to support the company&#8217;s highest-ever annual postpaid guide. In summary, Yaghi noted that the path for growth in front of T-Mobile US has not diminished.
Yaghi projected second-quarter of $20.81 billion and EPS of $2.63.

What Happened: Craig Moffett, a partner and senior managing director at MoffettNathanson, questioned the feasibility of Apple&#8217;s plans on Friday. Moffett points out that Apple also isn't receiving support from its carriers AT&amp;T (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/T#NYSE">T</a>), Verizon (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VZ#NYSE">VZ</a>), and T. Lam Research (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LRCX#NASDAQ">LRCX</a>) reported quarterly earnings of&nbsp;$1.04&nbsp;per share, which beat the analyst consensus estimate of&nbsp;98 cents, and, revenue of $4.72 billion,&nbsp;which beat the analyst <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/04/44965339/lam-research-stock-climbs-after-strong-q3-results-q4-guidance-above-estimates" rel="noreferrer noopener">consensus estimate of&nbsp;$4.59 billion</a>.
Check Point Software Technologies (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CHKP#NASDAQ">CHKP</a>) reported quarterly revenue growth of 7% year over year to $637.8 million, topping the&nbsp;analyst consensus estimate of $636.2 million and adjusted EPS of $2.21, beat the&nbsp;analyst <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44962682/check-point-q1-earnings-revenue-beats-expectations-ceo-highlights-strong-demand-for-quantum-force-and-ai-platform" rel="noreferrer noopener">consensus estimate of $2.19.</a>
AT&amp;T Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/T#NYSE">T</a>) reported operating revenues of $30.63 billion beating the&nbsp;analyst consensus estimate of $30.35 billion and adjusted EPS of $0.51 also beat&nbsp;the&nbsp;analyst<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/04/44947739/att-adds-324-thousand-postpaid-subscribers-in-q1-outpaces-verizons-289-thousand-loss" rel="noreferrer noopener"> consensus estimate of $0.49</a>.
SAP SE (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SAP#NYSE">SAP</a>) reported quarterly revenue of 9.01 billion euros ($9.48 billion), beating analyst estimates and earnings of 1.44 euros ($1.54) per share <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/04/44938879/sap-shares-climb-on-better-than-expected-q1-results" rel="noreferrer noopener">also came in ahead of estimates</a>.

Consumer Tech News (Apr 21-Apr 25): Microsoft's Copilot Gets a Sleek New Look, Apple Under Fire For 'Influence-Peddling' In US-China Trade & More

Goldman Sachs analyst James Schneider maintained a Buy rating on T-Mobile US, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TMUS#NASDAQ">TMUS</a>) on Thursday, with a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/T/analyst-ratings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">price target of $285</a>, up from $280.
Schneider expects the stock to trade lower following results that reflected relatively in-line financial metrics and postpaid phone net additions despite a modest uptick in financial guidance.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The analyst noted that, based on his conversations, investors expected a greater upside in postpaid phone net additions and an uptick in guidance, following the company&#8217;s historical pattern, especially in light of the acquisitions closed in the quarter.

Despite the higher promotional activity and churn metrics reported by all wireless carriers in the quarter, Schneider continues to see the wireless market backdrop as very healthy, given the ongoing plan price increases implemented by all carriers in recent months.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The analyst expects the company to continue its core wireless growth algorithm, with broadband driving the next chapter of growth.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Between AT&amp;T Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/T#NYSE">T</a>), Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VZ#NYSE">VZ</a>), Comcast, and T-Mobile, industry phone net additions are +853k in first-quarter of 2025 or 203k Y/Y which compares to +1,056k in first-quarter of 2024. This implies that industry growth remains relatively healthy but with a slowing growth rate.
On the residential broadband side, AT&amp;T (including DSL), Verizon (total consumer fixed + FWA), Comcast Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CMCSA#NASDAQ">CMCSA</a>), and T-Mobile US, Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TMUS#NASDAQ">TMUS</a>) (FWA) net additions were +596k in the first quarter of 2025 or -33k Y/Y, compared to 629k in the first quarter of 2024.
This implies that the industry is slowing somewhat.
Schneider does not expect the tower stocks to move significantly, as CapEx guidance was consistent with prior commentary.
T-Mobile <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/04/44995935/t-mobile-shares-drop-despite-better-than-expected-q1-report-details" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported revenue of $20.89 billion</a>, just above Schneider&#8217;s estimate of $20.78 billion and above the Street (VA) at $20.64 billion, with an upside in equipment revenue.
Postpaid phone net additions came in at +495k, which is just above Schneider&#8217;s estimate of +486k but below the Street estimate of +499k. Meanwhile, high-speed internet net additions of +424k were above the analyst estimate of +399k and the Street estimate of +396k.
T-Mobile updated guidance for 2025. Postpaid net customer addition guidance remains 5.5-6.0 million (5.5-6.0 million prior), versus the analyst estimate of 6.03 million and the Street at 5.87 million.&nbsp;&nbsp;
